Making Disfigured Nails Pretty Again With KeryFlex

As the warmer weather arrives, so will the open-toed shoes and summer sandals. If you are a patient undergoing treatment for a fungal toenail or your nail is disfigured due to a trauma or injury, you may be dreading this time of year. At Great Neck Family Foot Care we have a solution: KeryFlex Nail Restoration.

One of the primary symptoms of fungal toenails (or onychomycosis as it’s known in medically) is discoloration along with thickening of the nail and brittle, peeling edges. Chances are, after our board certified podiatrists, Dr. Alec Hochstein or Dr. Diana Gagliano diagnosed your nail condition, they prescribed an anti-fungal medication or perhaps laser therapy to treat your fungal nail. It can take weeks or even months, however, before your toenail is back to looking normal. In the meantime, the nail can be so unsightly that you feel embarrassed to go barefoot or wear your favorite strappy sandals. The good news is that with KeryFlex you can regain the beautiful appearance of your toenail while undergoing treatment. KeryFlex allows your natural nail to continue to heal underneath while giving you a healthy and attractive nail appearance.

How Does KeryFlex Work?

KeryFlex uses polymer resins to create a nail so natural looking that it will be indistinguishable from your other nails. The process is done in the office and only takes about 15 minutes. After removing as much of the damaged nail as possible, a special bonding agent is applied to the base of the original nail. Then the KeryFlex resin is molded to the shape of your toe. The nail will then set under an ultraviolet light for a few minutes. Finally the nail will be given a final shaping to complete the natural look. As your nail grows, you will need to come back every 6-8 weeks for a reapplication of KeryFlex until your own nail is fully healed.

KeryFlex nails are durable. They can be polished with regular nail polish and you can swim, shower and do all your normal activities. KeryFlex nails do not cause skin irritation and there are no known side effects.
